MARKET WOMEN AS DRIVING FORCES FOR THE PROGRESS OF AFRICAN SOCIETIES
The topic of “Market women as driving forces for the progress of African societies” is a priority at AFRIEUROTEXT. The permanent exhibition on this topic opened on November 16, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Hernalser Hauptstrasse 81, Vienna 1170 and ran until December 31, 2017. The high-quality paintings and pictures in this permanent exhibition could be viewed from January to the end of February 2017 at the Albert Schweitzer House (Schwarzspanierstraße 13, Vienna 1090).
The proceeds from the sale of these works went towards the financing of the construction of the AFRIEUROTEXT vocational training center for young women and men from disadvantaged social backgrounds in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. You can follow the progress of the construction work here. (please click here: pictures and videos of the construction work). The focus of this education and vocational training center are young women/men who are unable to attend school or who have dropped out of school for socio-economic or socio-political reasons. The goal is to enable this target group to complete school and gain employment. This center will act as a safety net for education as a means of helping people to help themselves and will function as the regional interface for the countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, the DR Congo and the Republic of Congo. The program of this educational center includes regional awareness campaigns against false images of Europe, enabling children to attend school or to graduate from school to pursue a job. Awareness campaigns against HIV and other fatal diseases. Education and information are empowerment and liberation from the clutches of structural violence in the Africa as well as in Europe.
Through this exhibition, AFRIEUROTEXT is paying homage to these women who (not only in Africa, but also in Asia, Central and South America, etc.) face their daily challenges with heart, courage and, above all, intelligence. Secondly, AFRIEUROTEXT makes these subjects, who have been made structurally invisible, visible. AFRIEUROTEXT is convinced that art is also part of the intellectual and scientific discourse about our world. Among other things, it is not just about making these subjects visible discursively, but about taking concrete action instead of speculating about Africa.
This permanent exhibition has been held in cooperation with the Albert Schweitzer Haus
